A couple of years ago we approached Aurel Schmidt, then an unknown Vancouver artist, about buying a piece for our space. We got our top pick, and Light Be Bright now sits on our wall, a beacon of grotesque beauty. Her darkly imaginative, often hilarious work, is meticulously rendered in obsessive detail. Now 24 years-old and living in New York, Aurel's talent and vision has efficiently lifted her to bona fide art star status.
